The best days start with COFFEE

The best days start with coffee - this includes when you’re backpacking or camping. It can be hard to convince yourself to get out of your warm sleeping bag and tent in the morning, but the sweet aroma of freshly brewed pour over coffee makes it all worth it.

We have some tips for you to make sure you start every adventure with the perfect cup of pour over coffee.

  • The Grind

A burnt cup of floating coffee grounds can ruin your outdoor excursion before you even leave your campsite. Brewing the perfect cup of coffee starts with the grind of the coffee bean - do it right, and you'll be ready to take on the day.

  • Coffee To Water Ratio

As a general rule you should use a 1:15 coffee to water ratio for pour overs. In other words, if you used 10 grams of coffee you would 150 grams of water for your pour.

  • Perfect The Pour

After placing your freshly ground beans in coffee filter, you can begin your pour. Your first pour is known as the bloom pour. The bloom pour gives your coffee grounds a chance to breathe before the rest of your pour. Pour about twice the amount of coffee, thoroughly wetting the grounds, and let it sit for 30-45 seconds. This will ensure that you capture all of the fine notes of the coffee without the sourness that carbon dioxide produces. After that, you should pour the rest of your water in slow circular motions to keep things even.

Lastly, make adjustments! Only you know how your perfect cup of coffee should taste. If your coffee tastes sour, let it bloom for a little longer. If it tastes too watery or bitter, adjust the grind till you find the perfect sweet spot. No matter your adventure, you deserve the perfect cup of coffee. Grind, pour, sip, and enjoy your next outdoor adventure!
