Lessons learnt from over camping trips

After many years adventuring the great outdoors, we've learnt the best way to explore this natural beauty is by camping. Camping gives you the opportunity to really explore a destination.

  • Always be prepared

This one may sound obvious but it's important to be prepared for everything. Make sure your first aid kit is fully stocked and always double check you have everything before you go. You can never have too many band-aids, bandages or sunscreen! We recommend developing a checklist of the essentials before leaving and ticking them off as you pack them in the car or travel bag to avoid leaving anything behind.

  • Always pack a backup

Always have a backup plan. In every instance, a backup torch, backup battery and a backup charger can never go astray. Depending on the campsite (powered/no-powered) you need to make sure all your appliances are in full working condition. Also, it's a good idea to have a test run at home before you go. Make sure you know how to use everything and make sure everything is still fully functional from your last trip.

  • Pack light

Life on the road isn't a fashion show. Keep your packing minimal and focus on the essentials! Consider the time you'll be going on your camping trip, what the environment would be like and the expected weather conditions. There is nothing worse than shivering in your tent all night. So whilst packing light is important, ensure you also pack smart by including a jacket and socks!

  • Have the right attitude

Bring your adventurous spirit! From climbing trees, hiking, swimming, whale watching or creating a fort. Make the most of your time and enjoy it. Try new things and push your boundaries – you won't regret it!

  • Google Ahead

Peer-reviewed recommendations are an excellent place to start! The camping community is full of fun facts and advice for nearly every destination or experience. Before you go, check out online forums and websites to see what other people have to say, as well as learn about attractions and activities nearby, and hot spots that could make excellent day trip adventures.
